40 FRIDAY, JANUARY 4- MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2013 BUSINESS & REAL ESTATE cape Gazette J.G Townsend Jr. & Co. provides financial SOLitude Lake Management named t)oos for open space preservation A charitable gift of more than $227,500 given by Georgetown- based J.G. Townsend ]1:. & Co. to the state of Delaware Open Space Program will help fund fu- ture land preservation efforts in Sussex County. The donation ful- fills its pledge to donate $1,050 per acre from the state of Delaware's purchase of 216 acres of forestland from the firm; the lands are now part of the 12,255- acre Redden State Forest. The purchase highlights the latest chapter in what has be- come a beneficial partnership between the public and private sectors: one of the existing Red- den State Forest tracts is already named the J.G. Townsend Tract in honor of former Delaware governor and U.S. Sen. John G. Townsend - an important figure in the political and agricultural history of the First State. "We are very grateful to the board of directors of ].G. Townsend Jr. & Co. for allowing us to conserve this important forestland for the benefit and en- joyment of future generations of Delaware . residents," said Michael A. Valenti, Delaware's state forestry administrator. "This large donation to Delaware's Open Space Preser- vation Fund will directly support 2nd largest distributor SOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related envi- ronmental services for the the Mid-Atlantic and surrounding states announces that for the third consecutive year it has ranked as the second-largest dis- tributor of AquaMaster Foun- tains and Aerators, both in the United States and internationally. It's also equally important to acknowl- edge the unfailing support of the U.S. Forest Service's Forest Lega- cy Program, which has provided well over $14 million to help pro- tect almost 3,000 acres as part of the Green Horizons Project," Valenti added. The 216-acre acquisition marks one of the latest phases in the Delaware Forest Service's long- range effort to permanently pro- tect working forests in Sussex County before they are convert- ed to other uses. The $1.54 mil- lion acquisition was purchased with $1.15 million from the U.S. Forest Service's Forest Legacy Program and $385,000 from the state's open space preservation fund. The forestland will be man- aged by the Delaware Forest Ser- vice for a variety of public bene- fits, including wildlife habitat, timber production, water quality, hunting and recreational oppor- tunities. Fountains and aerators are en- vironmentally sound water man- agement tools for lakes and ponds that address issues such as algae accumulation, aquatic weeds, bottom sludge, foul odors, insect infestation and wa- ter stagnation. Since 1998 SOLitude has been committed to providing frill-serv- ice lake and pond management services that improve water quali- ty, preserve natural resources and reduce environmental footprint.
