! ,I  SO FRIDAY, JANUARY 4- MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2013 CAPE LIFE Cape Gazette AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY UNIT 28 SPREADS JOY THE AMERICAN LEGION Auxiliary Unit 28 continued its support of veter- ans and the community by visiting local nursing homes and delivering Christ- mas packages to children. VA&R Chair Vickie Gillingham and Santa and his as- sistants visited Atlantic Shores Dec. 13 and Renaissance Dec. 17 and distrib- uted more than 40 packages to veter- a ri residing in the nursing homes. Auxiliary Vice President and Com- munity Service Chairman Carol Feeley coordinated the delivery of packages to needy families and Angel Tree gifts to East Millsboro Elementary School, the Oak Orchard Community Church, the Consortium and post families. Auxiliary Unit 28 officers and chairs (I-r) Cindy Phillips, Tina Washington, Floss Brady, Vickie Gillingham and San- ta (Dick Phillips) visit Atlantic Shores Nursing Home. BIKES DONATED TO MARINE CORP TOYS FOR TOTS CAMPAIGN SUBMITTED PHOTOS Families received gifts and clothing for children and a food card from Giant for a hol' iday meal. The Angel Tree gifts provided children with a special gift they had re- quested. The auxiliary supported more than 15 families and 100 Angel Tree re- quests. Briefly )) Military Officers Association of America to meet Jan. 15 The Southem Delaware Chap- ter of MOAA will meet Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant in Lewes. The guest speaker will be Maj. John Fisher, U.S. Army, who has just returned from a year's tour in Afghanistan, where he commanded a Civil Af- fairs Battalion. Fisher will provide an up-close perspective on the war in Afghanistan based on his experi- ences working shoulder to shoul- der with Afghans in a combat en- vironment to build basic com- munity infrastructure services and organization and to assist in establishing self-governance. A buffet luncheon will be served. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Friends and guests are welcome. VFW to host spaghetti dinner Feb. 10 The Milford Blue Hen VFW Post 6483 will host a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10. The dinner is open to the public. Menu will consist of spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, salad and beverage. Diners can enjoy smoke-free rn'eside dining in the hall or sunroom overlooking beautiful Haven Lake. Adults pay $9, children 12 and under $6. All proceeds benefit the Blue Hen VFW Post's various veteran and community charita- ble programs. For more details call 302-422-4412 anytime after noon.
