Strine also owns Westbay Park community in Long Neck with his sons. For Speraw, Strine's partici- pation in talks between the groups is a conflict of interest. "I think what's happening here is that Mr. Strine is strong-arming the Republican Party to do his wishes. He doesn't want either one of these bills passed - not on the floor, no up or down vote," said Speraw. Strine said to avoid such appearance of conflict, he won't crous. It's not possible. There have been no private meetings with any members of the House. It' simply inaccurate and dishon- est," said Strine. "If members of the caucus both on the Democratic and Republican side are to vote with their conscience, I don't believe rent control will pas. I believe compromise legislation will be introduced," Strine said. Speraw said he knows of no compromise legislation. He said two park owners, with whom homeowners met in recent months, failed to attend a Monday, Jan. 7 meeting to discuss compromise legislation. Valihura Late 0bituarv Dolly E. I've been trying to stay the middle course, and I'm open to working with both sides," said Valihura. Homeowners also say Pots Nets job loss. "My understanding is that everybody got one of these letters either on their desk or passed out with their paychecks. I would say that's not subtle intimidation, I would say that's mafia-style tac- tics," said Speraw. Calls to Tunnell were not returned at press time. Said Strine, "I happen to know that rent control is not at all popu- lar with members on both sides of the aisle. No state has rent control statewide." from some legislators. "I' m concerned about Wednesday's heating. According to Rep. Valihura, there is not going to be any public comment. We should be using the House chamber. My concern is that we're holding this in a room that's too small. I've requested to move this to the House chamber a num- ber of times. So far, that has not been accommodated."
