over Sussex Tech and Smyrna
By Dave Frederick
The Cape Henlopen boys bas-
ketball team, shaking off the diss-
apointment of two Christmas va-
cation losses in the Siam Dunk
tournament, posted 1997 victories
over Sussex Tech 62-49 and
Smyrna 83-37 to even their season
record at 3-3.
Cory Clouser 19, O.J.Wilson
15 and Ronson Burton 14 paced
the Viking scoring attack against
Smyrna.

plimented a

"fort against

three pointers
against the
Eagles.
Bobby Leg- CLOUSER
gins, who in-
jured his left calf muscle against
Brandywine in the Slam Dunk
tournament, is receiving physical
therapy and has not yet returned to
action. "I warmed up against
Smyrna and thought I was going
to be able to play," Leggins said.
"But it just hurt too much. I
couldn't even shoot a lay-up with-
out pain. I just hope I can be back
in time for the big Northern Divi-
sion games coming up."
Cape ran its JV record to 4-0
with a victory over Smyrna.
NOTES- Untouchable and un-
beaten Hodgson (9-0 Mayors'

The first annual Mayor Kurt
L.Schmoke Basketball Academy
Tournament opened Thursday,
Jan. 9 at Coppin State College in
Baltimore.
Sixteen teams from four cities
will compete including former
Slam Dunkers Saint Francis, Lake
Clifton, Dunbar, Southern and
Roman Catholic. The tournament
will include morning community
projects and workshops on the
NCAA's newest guidelines for
freshman eligibility known as
(Proposition 16.) It's obvious that
players from these basketball
powers see better competition and
more exposure than schools off
the beaten track to prepare them
for college.
Albert Mouring of Colonel
Richardson who scored 38 points
in a victory over Cape in the Slam
Dunk tournament drilled home 62
points in a recent 99-77 victory
