Arena's owners By Molly Albertson Cape Gazette staff The owners of .Arena's Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach are extending their reach and their well-known selection of sand- wiches into Lewes. The' group of five owners sprang into action when they learned Java Beach in Lewes was for sale. They say 'they want to keep the atmosphere but change a few things on the menu. "We will take the best from here and from Arena's and put them together in a caf6 setting','" said one of the owners, Ramsey Schrader. They hope to bring a touch of the laidback, affordable sand - with menu to Lewes.- There won't be any fried food or the selection of traditional appetizers that has made Arena's a favorite CAPE GAZETTE - Friday, January 12 - Monday, January 15, 2007 - 33 buy Java Beach inLewes late-night destination. Instead, Java Beach will continue to be a relaxing place to grab a cappucci- no, eat a sandwich and read the paper. Starting soon, Java Beach will also be a place to get a glass of wine or beer with lunch. Customers shouldn't expect the same rambling selection of world- wide beers and on-tap specials that is available at Arena's, though. The owners will select several specific wines and beers to complement the menU, and they do not plan to turn the caf6 into a bar. When Java Beach gets beer and wine, it will also get table service. The owners, who among them have a combined 30 years of experience in the restaurant indus- try, plan to reconfigure the dining room by adding more tables and hiring servers to attend them, so customers will no longer order at the counter. The breakfast menu won't change, but the lunch menu will get a facelift. Schrader said the team is still choosing which sand- wiches to bring to Java Beach, but the owners want to add an eclectic variety to the menu. He said they asked for feedback from cus- tomers to decide what to add and what to take away from the selec- tion. Schrader also said he wants to cater to the lunchtime crowd by continuing Java Beach's free delivery service in Lewes. "We want to focus on our restaurant and delivery in the Lewes area to cover the places that Arena's can't get to," Schrader said.
