Atlantic Sands undergoes major transformation The Atlantic Sands Hotel, locat- ed on the Rehoboth Beach Board- walk, is undergoing a dramatic facelift, which is set for comple- tion by the high-summer season. "After 39 years of service, we wnted our guests to really see our renewed commitment to comfort and service," said Katie Cahill, Atlantic Sands general manager. She noted that Ed Speraw, the Sands' chief maintenance engi- neer, is heading up the operation. "A building of this age presents a challenge - no matter what part of the hotel we're working in, some- thing unexpected turns up," he said. But Speraw is more than up to the challenge, deftly supervising several large projects simultane- ously, according to Cahill. These projects include installation of new eight-foot Pella windows and sliding glass doors in the execu- tive "Ambassador" section of the hotel, which houses the newest group of rooms. Speraw is also overseeing the construction of a new lobby, a remodeled porti- cochere (carport), and, most no- tably, a new west wall that enclos- es a four-story hallway. "The hotel has a great tradition in Rehoboth Beach, but I want to enhance the guest experience and bring it more up-to-date," Cahill said. "We're going to vastly im- prove our curb appeal with these improvements," added Dave Ack- erman, director of sales. "We hope that when people pull up to the new Atlantic Sands, they'll find the place more inviting."
