Cape wrestlers claim three crowns at Glasgow Invitational The Cape Henlopen High School wrestling team, despite the icy conditions, traveled north Sat- urday, Jan. 11, to the Glasgow In- vitational Tournament in Newark. Without a full complement of varsity wrestlers - two wrestlers were out with injuries - Cape managed to place four out of a 10 team field. Cape missed second place by just six points, with North East (MD), Milford, and Hodgson placing just above them. The Vikings sent four wrestlers to the finals and crowned three champions. CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, January 17 - January 23, 1997 - 57 by Milford's powerhouse Gary Curry in the finals. One of the best matches of the day was wrestled in the semi-fi- nals of the heavyweight division between Cape's Matt Graviet and Milford's first seed, Chris Wimer. This was a strategically wrestled duel which was eventually won on a decision by Cape's sophomore phenomena. In the finals, Graviet faced a much taller and heavier Glasgow opponent but was able to gain control and score a pin for the victory. This was a total team effort with nine out of thirteen wrestlers plac- ing in the top six. Other wrestlers who received awards: Zack Sieber (119) - 6th; David Barlow (125) - 3rd; Chuck Hazel (130) - 4th; Theron Pavlik (145) - 5th; and Joe DeLoy (152)- 3rd.
