Alden, retired engineer William/L Alden, 87, a direct descendant of pilgrims John and Priscilla Alden, died at the Delaware Hospice Center in Mil- ford Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010. Born Jan. 31, 1922, the son of the late Joe F. and Myrtle Johns Alden and a native of Cleveland, Ohio, he was educated in civil engineering at Ohio State Uni- versity, Case Western Reserve University and the University of Alabama. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and again during the Korean War at Fort Benning, Ga. A talented musi- cian, he played trumpet in the 122nd U.S. Army Band. He main- tained a lifelong, avid interest in auto racing. He was a retired en- gineer, estimator and credit man- ager of the Ben Tom Corp. in Columbus, Ohio, where he lived until moving to Delaware in 2002. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eloise Pocock Alden; and by their daughter, Nancy A. Roberts of Lewes; and sons John (and Amy) Alden of Columbus, and Jim (and Kathy) Alden of Spring Lake Heights, N.J.; and by his sister, Betty Goerke and her family of Findlay, Ohio. Also sur- viving are his grandchildren: Jes- sica (Mrs. John) O'Leary in Ocean View, Robin Wray in Lewes, and Katie (Mrs. Mike) Schimmel in Milford; Joe Alden and Christy Alden in Columbus; and Dan, Jake, Paige and Gwyrme Alden in New Jersey, Anna Alden in New York City, and Luke Alden in Rome, Italy; and his seven great-grandchildren. Services are private. Ann L. Haigh, enjoyed cooking Ann L. Haigh, 86, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010. She had been a resident at Renaissance Healthcare in Millsboro. She enjoyed cooking her Italian specialties and enter- taining her family. She tookgreat pride in her home and was a die- hard PhiUies fan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold E Haigh Sr.; and daughter, Carol H. Ferguson; her parents, Joseph and Louise Vari (nee Vilone); and her four brothers and sister. She is survived by her son, Harold F. Haigh Jr. and wife Kathryn; and daughter, Ann Louise King and husband Ken- neth. She is also survived by four grandsons, Jamie King, Michael King, Harold E Haigh III and T. Michael Ferguson; and two granddaughters, Kimberly Car- roll and Kristine Wallace; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Mel- son's Funeral Home on Long Neck Road, Millsboro, at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22, with services to begin at 8 p.m. Interment will be at All Saints' Cemetery, Kirk- wood Highway, Wilmington, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 23. Joseph R. Dulaney Sr., retired analyst Joseph Richard Dulaney Sr., 76, of Millsboro, formerly of Wausen, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at home. He was born June 15,1933, in Seat Pleasant, Md., to the late Ira and Mary Johnson Dulaney. Mr. Du- laney retired as a quality control analyst from the automotive in- dustry. He was a member of the Bayshore Community Church in Gumboro, a member of Ameri- can Legion Post 28 and a U.S. Army veteran. He loved chil- dren and was the "Gramps" of the church, liked to work with his hands and liked working at Sam's Furniture and he never met anyone he did not like. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Sediak Dulaney; a son, Joseph R. Dulaney Jr. of Indiana; a daughter, Deborah Jo Jeneary of Port Clinton, Ohio; three brothers, George, Robert and Michael Dulaney; two sisters, Madeline Dulaney and E. 11a Fairall; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Hurtha, Edward, Harvey, Relmond and William. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Bayshore Commu- nity Church, 36759 Millsboro Hwy., Millsboro. The family asks for donations to (ompassionate Care Hospice, 31038 Country Garden Blvd., Suite D2, Dags- boro, DE 19939. Ervin C. Marsh Jr., retired educator Ervin (Erv) Coley Marsh Jr., 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilita- tion Center. Dr. Marsh, a gradu- ate of Crisfield High School, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Salisbury University, the University of Cal- ifornia at San Francisco and No- va University. After teaching in the Baltimore County Schools, he moved to Sussex County to become principal of what was then Selbyville High School. Af- ter three years at the school, he was appointed director of stu- dent activities at the Delaware Department of Public Instruc- tion in Dover. Later he was named assistant to the Delaware state superintendent of schools. Before his retirement, Dr. Marsh was director of accreditation and certification for the Delaware Department of Public Instruc- tion. In 1996, Marsh retired to his farm in Roxana and in 2000 moved to Ocean Pines. He is sur- vived by his wife of 47 years, Merle, and their son Adam. A service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends and family may call one hour pri- or to the service.
