cape Gazette ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT FRIDAY, JANUARY 22- MONDAY, JANUARY 25, 2010 65 Autism ball to feature M00irdi Gras theme Feb. 27 in Rehoboth The Lower Delaware Autism Foundation has announced that committee members are busy planning for this year's 9th An- num Autism Ball and Auction for Hope to raise funds in support of autism programs, services, advo- cacy and awareness efforts in Sussex County. The fundraiser will be held from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Rehoboth Beach Con- vention Center. Sussex Tree of Seaford has generously provided lead sponsorship for the event and the Kiernan family is also sponsoring the event and will support as honorary chairs. Several changes are in store for this year's guests. The convention center will be transformed into Bourbon Street as a Mardi Gras theme entices guests to "let the good times roll" while they celebrate all that is possible for individuals with autism when they have the sup- port of their community. The event will be catered by Nage of Rehoboth Beach, a lo- cals' favorite restaurant. Owner and Catering Manager losh THE LOWER DELAWARE AUTISM FOUNDATION'S Autism Ball and Auction for Hope is known for it's large silent auction and exciting live auction items, includ- ing jewelry, sports memorabilia and gift certificates from local restaurants, spas and retailers. The 2010 event, set for Saturday, Feb. 27, will feature a Mardi Gras theme and catering with a New Orleans flair by Nage. Grapski, who is familiar with New Orleans cuisine, is coordi- nating a spectacular menu with a touch of "NOLR' flair, including appetizers like mini muffalattos, barbecued shrimp, crawfish and crab caltes, along with a Mardi Gras greens salad first course, and a hearty buffet of entrees featuring shrimp risotto, braised short ribs and roasted chicken breast with wild mushroom jus. Mini sweet treats will finish off the evening's gastric tour of the bayou with beignets, bourbon pecan pies and key lime tarts. An open bar will be available to all guests over 21 during the evening from 6 p.m. until last call. The Autism Ball is known for its huge silent auction and excit- ing live auction with local fa- vorite Butch Emmert of Emmert Auction Associates. Guests will have the opportunity to offer bids on 400-plus items grouped by categories like travel, beauty, health and services, children, sports memorabilia, entertain- merit, restaurants and wine, art, jewelry and home. Donations are still being re- ceived and are welcome from the community. Guests will be entertained with jazz music during the silent auction portion of the evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Following din- net, guests can dance the night away to the sounds of Big City Ban& Admission is $125 per person or sponsor a table of 12 for $2,500, Other sponsorship op- portunities are also available.
