72 FRIDAY, JANUARY 22-- MONDAY, JANUARY 25, 2010 ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT cape Qazett DOUG YETTER, left, and Ken Skresz of Clear Space Productions will stage "An American Songbook" Sunday, Feb. 7. Clear space to stage 'American Songbook' Feb. 7 at Cape High Ken Skrzesz and Doug Yetter are celebrating their Uth year of 'm American Songbook" with this year's concert. Arrange- ments by Yetter include songs from "Oklahoma," "Jekyll and Hyde," "Meet Me in St. Louis," "The Secret Garden," "She Loves Me" and the current Broadway sensation "Ragtime," among oth- ers. "We've changed the format just a bit this year," said Yetter. "Instead of focusing on a show, a composer, we've put together a show that is more of a retrospec- tive of our careers." The duo is currently in re- hearsal for the one-show only performance at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, at the Cape Henlopen High School Theatre. This year's Songbook Concert consists of songs with which both Skrzesz and Yetter have had some professional connec- tion. Doug added, "Ken sings numbers from his early career, the piece he auditioned with and landed his fLrSt professional job, songs he's performed in shows around the country, and a few he's performing in the near fu- ture, while I concentrate on some of the specialty numbers I've done throughout my career." The Songbook Concert re- quires a lot from both perform- ers. "A full-length concert is al- ways a challenge because there is no real break," said Skrzesz. "You have to create stamina in the rehearsal process and find ways to give yourself a break within the music itself:' Bethany Beach theatre=goer, Kay Loysen, commented, 'n American Songbook" is one of my favorite shows of the season for Clear Space. Watching Ken and Doug act through beautiful music is such a treat I look for- ward to attending this concert year-round and now it is finally here." ' American Songbook" is one of Skrzesz's and Yetter's fa- vorite performances of the sea- son as well. Reserve tickets online at clear- or by call- ing the box office at 644-3810.
