The district seeks to contract for 20 to 60 hours per week of counseling services to begin no later than March 1, 1995, and extend until the end of the 1994-95 student school year. Sen,ices are to be provided in ell district elementary and middle schools by certified counselors with expe- nence working with a K-6 student population. Counselors will be expected to review referrals from parents or professional staff, make recommendations for counseling services, obtain written parent permission prior to counseling with students, providing counseling services, and main- taining a daily activity log. Staff/par- ent training may be scheduled only on the following dates: Feb. 21, 22, 2; Mar. 15, 16, 21; Apr. 11, 12, 25; May 26, 31; and June 1, 1995. Student training may be scheduled only on the fol- lowing dates: March 1, 2,7, 8, 13, 14; Apr. 27, 28; May 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24. All groups are to be trained in Conflict Resolution techniques. At least one Peer Mediation training session must be included in any proposal. Trainers will be responsible for providing all necessary training materials, A minimum of 30 hours must be factored in to provide follow-up support after the training. Approximately $25,000 Is available through this grant for after-school programs. The district seeks community-based service providers to develop and implement an after-school program(s) for students in grades K-6. The district is interested in programs that focus on improv- Ing student academic skills, building serf-esteem, providing enrichment, assisting with homework, developing student serf-discipline and conflict resolution skills, promoting substance abuse pre- vention, and promoting l:xitive health habits. Programs should include a component for involving parents snd promoting a positive llnk between families and schools. Programs must be able to begin serving students no latsr than March I, 1995. Funding for pro- grams is available from Feb. 15 through June 30, 1995. Proposals must include: A detailed description of the program and services to be provided. If 9rant funds are to be used to expand existing programs, it must he made clear what the existing services are and what additional services will be provided. A detailed budget describing how the grant funds are to be used. *A profile of staff who will be providing service and any applicable cer- ttiication, training, and/or experience that staff may possess. The location of the program and how transportation will be arranged. The dates and times send(ms are to be provided and a total num- ber of contact hours for students in the program.
