Briefly The following movies are now playing in the resort area: Absolute Power - Clint East- wood and Gene Hackman star in this gut-wrenching drama about murder and deception. Eastwood also directs. Rated R. That Darn Cat - Ever seen a cat solve a crime? Christina Ricci ("The Addams Family," "Now and Then") will show you how in this daffy feline comedy. Rated PG. National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation - Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo and Randy Quaid are back in the latest, high-rolling in- stallment of hilarious cross-coun- try adventures. Rated PG. Evita - See pop diva Madon- na do her best in the role of the legendary Ava Peron. Also stars Melonie Griffith's main squeeze and Silver Screen tough-guy An- tonio Banderas. Rated PG. Fools Rush-In. Yet another "Friends" star gives it a whirl on the big screen. Just in time for Valentine's Day, a romantic com- edy starring Matthew Perry. Rat- ed PG-13. Dante's Peak. Pierce Bros- nan and Linda Hamilton prepare for the worst as an inactive vol- cano suddenly erupts in a disas- trous plot. Rated PG-13. The Beautician and the Beast - Can't get enough of "The Nanny7" See Fran Drescher hit the big screen in this comedic ad- venture. Rated PG. Mother. Albert Brooks di- rects and stars in this whimsical film about a man who must make amends with his mother, played by screen diva Debbie Reynolds. Rated PG-13. Star Wars - The new, en- hanced version of the 1970's clas- sic has been tops at the box office ever since its release several weeks ago. The film features more footage, improved special effects and some surprises. Rated PG. The Empire Strikes Back. The second in the installment of George Lucas' blockbusters. "Star Wars" surpassed Stephen Spielberg's E.T. in ticket sales. Time will tell if the sequel can do the same. Rated PG. The English Patient - Set on the eve of World War II, Acade- my Award nominee Ralph Fi- ennes develops an attraction to a married aristocrat (played by Kristin Scott Thomas). The film raked in a total of 12 Oscar nomi- nations. Rated R. Jerry Magulre - Tom Cruise plays a high-powered sports agent who works for a high-profile sports management agency. Cruises' Maguire stumbles into a new kind of life with single morn Dorothy (played by newcomer Rennee Zellweger). Cruise is nominated for his sec- ond Oscar for his performance in this film, which is directed by Cameron Crowe (Say Anything and Singles). Rated R. Singles Supper Club to meet Feb. 28 The Friday Night Singles Supper Club will hold its monthly buffet dinner at the Mill Pond Restaurant, Route 113 in Millsboro on Feb. 28, with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. To allow proper planning, attendees must pre-register by calling Michelle at 644-1641, Dolores at 875-4199 or Dave at 945-4973 by Feb. 21. Gary"U.S." Bonds, Shirelles to perform at Dover Downs Two singing sensations from the 50s and 60s, Gary "U.S." Bonds and the Shirelles, will per- form Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22, at the Dover Downs Slots. Bonds is known for his early hits songs, "New Orleans," "School is Out," "Quarter to Three," and "Twist, Twist Seno- ra." His rhythm and blues/pop blend influenced later songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen. Bonds again reached the Top 20 in 1981 with "This Little Girl of Mine" from that album. The Shirelles, the first female group to have a number one single, produced such hits as "I Met Him on a Sunday," "Dedicated to the One I Love," "Tonight's the Night," and "Sol- dier Boy." Their biggest hit was "Will You Love Me Tomorrow." Shows begin at 7:30 and 10 p.m. each night in the enclosed grand- stand on the third floor above the slots area. Tickets are $12.50.
