30 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, February 25 - March 2, 2000 H0100ses of Worshi ChJrch Notes Lutherans to host World Day of Prayer The Lutheran Church of Our Savior at 7 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, will host the annual World Day of Prayer at 1 p.m., Friday, March 3. Christians in over 170 countries will gather in observance of this occasion, coming together in informed prayer and prayerful action, led by women from many backgrounds, cultures and Christian tradi- tions. World Day of Prayer is sponsored in the United States by Church Women United, a grassroots ecumenical movement of Methodist, Lutheran, Roman Catholic and other denominations. This year's ser- vice, written by Christian women of Indonesia, focuses on the theme 'Talitha Kumi: Young Woman Stand Up!" based on the Gospel of Mark 5:41, when a 12-year-old girl was dying and Jesus healed her. Many Indonesian children are experiencing a similar situation, with poverty, child labor and exploitation by multinational corporations all taking away the precious life God intends. Inspired by this text, the In- donesian women see the hand of Jesus reaching out to them, inviting them as he did this young woman to life in all its fullness. During World Day of Prayer, everyone is invited to heed this calling to affirm in prayer and actions Christian solidarity with the Indonesians. All members of the Christian community are invited to join in with the offerings received enabling the ongoing work of Church Women Unit- ed. For details, call 227-4025.
