44 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, Briefly Rotarians plan lunch with lawyers The Georgetown-Millsboro Ro- tary Club is inviting business peo- ple to lunch with them at the Sus- sex Pines Country Club on Tues- day, March 4 for a panel discus- sion on "Employee vs. Indepen- dent Contractor," and "Sexual Ha- rassment." Susan Pittman-Weid- man and Harold Purnell, attorneys with Tunnell & Raysor, a promi- nent Sussex County law firm, will spend 45 minutes reviewing these topics. As many businesses are discovering, there are advantages to designating workers as inde- pendent contractors rather than employees. Many businesses are also discovering the consequences of unacceptable conduct in the workplace. This program is part of the club's commitment to improve the business environment and will be of particular interest to small and mid-size employers. Lunch and materials will be $8. Resort summer job fair slated March 21 HIRE Education, a unique pro- gram offered by the Delaware February 28- March 6, 1997 Business, Industry, Education (BIE) Alliance that gives employ- ers access to high school tran- scripts as part of the hiring process, will be the focus of a seminar on Friday, March 21 at the Bay Center in Dewey Beach. The seminar is designed for em- ployers who wish to determine if their company qualifies for HIRE education services. Student tran- scripts provide critical informa- tion about applicants, including courses and grades, attendance records, class rank and extracur- ricular activities. This informa- tion is available quickly and easily through the HIRE initiative. The seminar will be held before the doors open for the 1997 Sum- mer Job Fair, which will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 21 and 22. The cost to participate in the Job Fair is $115 for two days or $75 one day. The cost includes one table, four chairs, table linens, pipe and drape and a sign. Hearn elected president of DE Restaurant Assn. Chip Hearn, of the Starboard Restaurant, Ice Cream Store, Pep- pers and St. Somewhere will serve a two-year term as the newly elected president of the Delaware Restaurant Association. Susan W. Krick, of the Summer House Restaurant, will serve as the asso- ciation's vice-president. Area restaurateurs serving on the board of directors are Sydney Artz of Sydney's Blues and Jazz Restau- rant and Joyce Felton of the Blue Moon Restaurant. Seminar on legalities of electronic data set The Diamond State Chapter of the Association of Records Man- agers and Administrators will pre- sent an all day seminar on Thurs- day, March 20 at the Radisson Hotel in Wilmington on Develop- ing an Electronic Data Manage- ment & Retention Program. The seminar is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will inchide such topics as "The Use of Electronic Data as Evidence," "Legal Issues Sur- rounding ED as Evidence," and "Developing Information Man- agement." The seminar is geared to record managers, administra- tors, office managers and anyone who needs to understand the legal issues surrounding electronic data as evidence. In addition to work- shops, there will also be vendors' exhibits. The cost for the seminar is $109, which includes refresh- ments and lunch. McKinley, executive director of the First State Manu- factured Housing Institute in Dover, has announced that the or- ganization has been awarded membership status in the Federat- ed States Di- vision of the Manufac- tured Hous- ing Institute (MHI) of Washington, DC, the na- tional indus- try trade asso- ciation. MCKINLEY Membership was officially recognized at the MHI winter meeting held in Washington on Feb. 9 - 11. The First State Manufactured Housing Institute represents the interests of its 150 industry mem- ber at the state, county and local levels. Delmarva poultry exports continue to grow Exporting continues to grow in importance for Delmarva's poul- try industry according to new fig- ures released by Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. (DPI), the trade as- sociation for the Delmarva Penin- sula 1.5 billion dollar-a year poul- try industry. In 1996, exports ac- counted for approximately seven percent of Delmarva's poultry production or nearly 215 million pounds of broiler chicken. Desti- nations for Delmarva-produced products last year included Rus- sia, Hong Kong, China, Ukraine, South Africa and Albania.
