"I Cape Gazette ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT FRIDAY, MARCH 2-MONDAY, MARCH 5.2012 71 PLEIN AiR FESTIVAL SEEKS ENTRANTS, SPONSORS SUBMITTED PHOTO PLEIN AIR COASTAL DELAWARE is a new paint ng and photogra- phy compehhon, exhtblhon and-sale that wl ,feature the beauty of the Delaware coast interpreted by some 125 artists from around the region. They will gather to paint, ~lraw and photograph local scenes from Monday, May 7, to Thursday, May 10, n Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethanyand Milton. Prizes totaling $11,000 will be awarded. A winners' circle and other works will be on display at Children's Beach House in Lewes at 6 p.m., Friday, May 11, at a Patron Preview Reception with tick- ets at $200. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for general ticket holders who pay $100. The artwork will remain on display for show and sale through 6 p.m., Saturday, May 12. She has studied watercol- orwith such nationally recog- nized artists as Mary Whyte and Charles Reid. The Rehoboth Art League, Milton Art Guild and Millsboro Art League exhibit her work. She is a member of the Rehoboth Art League and has been accepted in the league's regional juried show. Her work has also been hung at Beebe Medical Center's Best of the Beach, The Children's Beach House Holiday Art Show and the Biggs Picture 2011 exhibition at the Biggs Museum of American Art. As a jewelry craftsperson, she participates in The Lewes Historical Society's Arts and Crafts show, as well as the St. Pe- ter's 4th of July Arts and Craft Show. She is currently teaching drawing, painting and jewelry- making classes for Wilmington University in Rehoboth Beach. Barbara Petterson's represen- tational acrylic paintings are pri- marily panoramas of the Lewes and Rehoboth Beach areas. She emphasizes strong triangular or circular compositions by the use of bright, crisp colors and rich textures. Her saltwater themes are signed with her maiden name, Flock. She has won nu- merous awards, and her paint- ings and ceramic sculptures ap- pear in both private and corpo- rate collections. The Rehoboth Art League and the AerieArt gallery in Rehoboth Beach ex- hibit her work, and visits to her Lewes studio can be arranged by appointment. All work is for sale, with a 15 percent commission go- ing to support Delaware Chil- dren and Families First, a non- profit agency that works with lo- cal families in need.
