44- CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, March 7 - March 13, 1997 Midway Office and Art Supply relocating to shopping center By Jen EUingsworth Currently located at 1542 High- way One in Lewes, Midway Of- rice and Art Supply will re-locate its operation to the Midway Shop- ping Center (behind the Road- house Steak Joint) early next month. Luanne Holland, who has worked at Midway Office and Art Supply since 1985, purchased the business from longtime owner Jack Abel last week. Along with his late mother, Irene, he founded the Midway Office and Art Sup- ply in 1983. After becoming an ordained minister in 1994, Abel went on to serve in Seaford for two years and Accounting Jen Ellingsworth photo Luanne Holland, the new owner of Midway Office and Art Supply, said the business will be up and running at its new lo- cation (in the Midway Shopping Center) in early April Methodist Church in Port Deposit, Md. Holland has managed the business for Abel since he became a minister. Holland said the new site should be up and running by the second week in April. "We're going to move with as little disruption as possible while providing all the current services," she said. Midway Office and Art Supply has a full-service copy shop on the premises, and offers a plethora of necessities for both home and of- flee. The store is the source of wedding invitations, letterheads, laminating, binding, full color copies, bookbags, school and art supplies. Holland said although future plans include slightly reducing the amount of art supply products of- fered, Midway Office and Art Supply will continue its reputation as the sole supplier of art needs in the area. In addition, she said spe- cial orders can be filled within 24- 48 hours. Midway Office and Art Supply also offers free delive, ry supplies with no minimum, said Holland. The company has a long-stand- ing tradition of service to offices in Delaware and Maryland, and Holland said the business is booming. In addition to its exten- sive office and art supply invento- ry, the business also includes of- fice furniture. Holland said the new location will still include fur- nishings. Midway Office and Art Supply is a member of the Office Net- work buying group, added Hol- land, which makes the company able to buy equipment direct and pass the savings along to the cus- tomer. The business employs nine people, said Holland, and includes Delmarva Power's Conectiv Communications, Inc., Delmarva Power & Light Co.'s newly formed telecommuni- cations subsidiary, has announced its intention to become a regional supplier of local telephone and long distance service to business- es and homes in Delaware, Mary- land, southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Conective Communications ex- pects to launch its telephone ser- vice this fall, pending appropriate regulatory approvals and service agreements. As a first step, the subsidiary has filed for a required Certificate of Public Convenience Conectiv Communications to offer phone service and Necessity with the Delaware Public Service Commission. "We believe business and resi- dential customers will like the idea of having a high quality, cost- saving alternative to Bell Atlantic from someone right next door," said Linda Ratchford, Conectiv Communications manager of Cus- tomer Care. "With an extensive state-of-the-art fiber optic net- work in place and growing, our new phone company will be in a position to bring world-class tele- phone and telecommunications services to the region." Conectiv Communications will offer home and business sub- scribers an extensive portfolio of business and residential products and services, including local and long distance telephone service and additional calling features such as Call Waiting, Voice Mail, Caller ID, as well as installation, maintenance and repair. Delmarva currently owns and operates a 400-mile fiber optic telecommunications network and is expanding this network across the region. The company recently announced the formation of its telecommunications subsidiary to serve the carrier and bulk band- width segments of the telecommu- nications industry. Conectiv Com- munications will soon provide lo- cal and long distance phone ser- vice in addition to communica- tions carrier services to long dis- tance providers, Competitive Ac- cess Providers and local carrier service providers. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 opened the door to com- petition in the local telephone market. Customers will soon be able to choose their local tele- phone service supplier just as they can choose their long distance supplier today.
