Submitted photo Beach Day '99 aids Meals on Wheels Even though Beach Day '99 was cancelled due to Hurricane Floyd, the spirit of Beach Day couldn't be held back. Jim Thornton, executive director of Meals On Wheels Delaware Inc., was recently presented with a check for more than $12,000, the result of business and civic group sponsorships and individual donations. Beach Day is an annual event sponsored by Delaware Health and Social Services Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities, and Sussex County Senior Services IncJCHEER. The Beach Day celebration gives sen- ior citizens and adults with physical disabilities the opportu- nity to enjoy a day at the beach and take advantage of free health screenings. At the same time, it raises funds for Meals On Wheels Delaware Inc. Conectiv has traditionally spon- sored the Governor's Walk portion of Beach Day and this year was also a primary sponsor of the Health and Wellness Fair. Shown are (l-r) Richard B. Harper, Jr., deputy directory of CHEER; Joanne Pisapia, Delaware Health and Social Ser- vices Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities; Deborah Fidderman, Conectiv Community Out- reach; Thornton; Donna Smith-Moore, Beach Day coordina- tor; Mary Ellen Hearn, Governor's Walk chair; and Joyce Westen, Health and Wellness chair.
