56 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, March 24 - March 30, 2000 CHEER Center presents awards to helpful Cape Region businesses Two local businesses, Puzzles in Lewesand Christmas Spir- it in Rehoboth Beach, were recently awarded certificates of appreciation from Sussex County Senior Services Inc./CHEER for their efforts in assisting the organization with its annual Entertainment Book fundraiser, which wrapped up on January 31. For the past three years, the owners and staff of Puzzles and Christmas Spirit have helped CHEER raise funds for sen- ior programs and services by selling the popular books at their respective locations. "By allowing us to sell the Entertainment Book at their shops, we cm provide our established patrons with conven- ient and friendly locations to purchase their copies and we gain new buyers as they visit these two popular businesses," Submitted photos said Mary Ellen Hearn, Entertainment Book fundraiser chair at CHEER. "The generous support we receive from these two local businesses allow all of us to work together to improve the services available to senior citizens living in our commu- nity. Puzzles owner Gavin Braithwaite said he and his staff were "glad to help out. All proceeds from the sale of the Enter- tainment Book are directed to senior programs and services offered by CHEER. Delaware residents are starting their own "townsites" on the Internet. As many people all over the United States have done, people in the area are offered the same opportunity. Michele Weigel, founder and CEO of Local Townsites Inc., will be visiting local towns to offer licenses for these townsites. She will work with residents, local nonprofit organiza- tions, various media resources and other groups. The goal of Local Townsites is to pro- vide small communities with a presence on the Internet. The company provides a portal site for the entire country, listed by state, so all sites will benefit from its collective advertis- ing efforts. Local Townsites is not an employer. Each li- censee has rights to a particular area and the freedom to run a site in a fashion suitable for that particular community.
