RAL seeks to Rehoboth Art League is looking for docents to volunteer in one of the oldest and most charming houses in Rehoboth, the Home- stead Mansion. Rehoboth Art League docents contribute many valuable hours of volunteer time, helping staff the Homestead Man- sion, greeting visitors, and an- swering questions. Their contribu- tion of time and talent is an in- credibly valuable and necessary resource for the League. There- fore, the Rehoboth Art League is hosting an afternoon tea in appre- ciation for the docents and to wel- come those who are considering CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, April 4- April 10, 1997 - 49 add to prestigious volunteer corps becoming a docent. The tea, scheduled for Friday, April 18 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Homestead, will provide an op- portunity to gather as a group, to greet new docents and to provide staff with ideas for training and deciding on a group activity in the fall. The tea is also an excellent opportunity for new volunteers to ask questions and learn more about being a docent. For more information, call 227- 8408. Folk art and basket show April 26 in Dover Basket collectors and craft show enthusiasts are invited to attend the Folk Art and Basket Accessories Show on Saturday, April 26 at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. The show is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and will in- clude vendors who specialize in basket accessories. Tickets are $5 and will qualify to Win door prizes if purchased by April 15. The show hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call (302) 378-2990. Students will be taught how to make this butterfly basket in a class taught by Bea Whitehead at the Rehoboth Art League in April Basket classes taking off at Rehoboth Art League Bea Whitehead, who will teach a two-day basket making class at the Rehoboth Art League in April, believes students should have a good time while learning. "We have a wonderful time when I teach at the League. Dur- ing the last class I taught, we laughed the whole time," said Whitehead, whose bright person- ality and sense of humor have made her one of the League's most popular instructors. Whitehead, who holds an art de- gree from Rosemont College, taught elementary school for 20 years. This is the first time she has offered the butterfly basket class at the Art League. Students in the class will study the shaping and basic techniques of Appalachian basket construc- tion. The butterfly basket is with- out a handle and is made of reed, cane and sea grass. "But students can add any other embellishments they want," Whitehead said. Students will walk away from the class with a completed large basket with a contemporary flair that looks great on a table or floor. The fee for the course is $60 for members and $70 for non-mem- bers, plus a material fee of $15. .The class meets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, April 16 and 17. Sesame Street visits Wicomico Civic Center Elmo, Zoe, Big Bird, and other Sesame Street residents will be fea- tured in the stage extravaganza "Let's Be Friends" 'offered at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13. Friday's show begins at 7 p.m., and shows on Saturday are at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. There is one 2 p.m. show on Sunday. Tickets are $10, though group discounts may be available.
