30 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, April5 - April 11, 1996 Midway Assembly presents :"He Loved Me With a Cross, April 7 Midway Assembly of God will present the musical and drama "He Loved Me With A Cross" at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, April 7. This dramatic musical portrays the major events of the last week in the life of Jesus Christ, includ- ing Christ's triumphal entry, the Last Supper, the Garden of Geth- semane, the Crucifixion, Burial, Resunetion and Ascension of Je- sus Christ. The musical was created by Michael Burt and Joel Lindsey, arranged and orchestrated by Lari Goss and written by Joel Lindsey and Jeff Switzer. Rev. Gary R. Ross will be directing the 32- voice adult Assembly Choir, which has been preparing this pre- sentation since the beginning of ihe year. "The choir has worked very diligently to prepare a musical that is very upli.fting and power- ful. We have invested a lot of time in preparing ourselves to present the true message of Easter in a way that is sensitive to people's needs and powerful enough to change people's lives. Our pur- pose is not to entertain the viewer, but to elevate the viewer into the presence of Jesus Christ," said Pastor Ross. "He Loved Me With A Cross" includes 13 songs with several ex- pressive solos. Many portions of the musical will include familiar songs, such as the Easter hymn "Christ Arose" and the closing song "There's Room at the Cross for You." Viewers should listen for the unique and timely inclu- sion of the hymn "The Old Rugged Cross" during the cruci- fixion scene. The style makes the musical appealing to all ages, Pas- tor Ross noted, as other songs in- clude "He Stepped Down," "I Be- lieve in Him," "Love Brought Him Here To Me," "Hosanna," "Do You Believe in Me," "Not My Will," "He Could Have Sim- ply Walked Away," "To the Cross," "Christ Arose," "He Is Risen," "Resurrection Song," "He Loved Me With a Cross," and "There's Room at the Cross For You." Members of the church have de- signed and built an elaborate set with special lighting and effects to enhance the presentation. The en- Lane, across from Midway Shop- tire choir will be attired in cos- ping Center, between Lewes and tume to reflect the wardrobe of the Rehoboth Beach. There is no fee days of Christ from sandals to for the musical, but donations will headpieces. . ............. b e_.+c.eptcd..The doors open, at Midway Assembly of God is 1o- 5:45 p.m. For more information cated on Route One at Postal ca11645-9643.
