DeVries BPW chooses Young Careerist The DeVries Business and Professional Women's Club held its annual Young Careerist Program on April 2 at the month- ly meeting held at the Lamp Post Restaurant. Kim Westcott, Beebe Medical Center nutrition and education specialist (sec- ond from right) was named 1996 Young Careerist of the Year, shown with judges (l.-r.) Diane McCahill from House of Can- dles in Lewes; Ruth Segnar, with expertise in human re- sources, and Susie Brittingham of the Cranberry Scoop in Midway, along with DeVries President Bonnie Pizzo. This year's theme was promoting the rights of women, polit- ically, professionally and privately, with the women giving three-minute speeches on the subject. Westcott, in her speech, said politically, she would keep people informed on candidate positions and keep tabs on those still in office, to ensure they support women's rights. Professionally, she not- ed she has the opportunity to educate female clients and com- mtmity organizations on issues affecting their health, while privately, she believes education and support of female friends will promote these goals. "We must all work together to secure the rights of women so that the road to equality won't be so long," Westcott said. Westcott goes on to represent the DeVries BPW Club at the station competition in May. Sexual harassment topic at Del Tech seminar April 25 The Delaware Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs is sponsoring a seminar, "Making Workplaces Work: Understanding Sexual Ha- rassment". The seminar will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 25 at Delaware Tech Owens Campus in Georgetown. The speaker will be Tony Palm, owner of Management Concepts of Salisbury, Md., who has facili- tated sensitivity training and sexu- al harassment workshops since 1982. He is a designated sexual harassment prevention trainer for municipal governments in Penn- sylvania and a provisional instruc- tor for Maryland's Police and Correction Training Commission. He will be followed by a round- table discussion on five areas of concern: what constitutes sexual harassment?; what to do if you are a victim?; what are the legal rami- fications?; what impact does a charge have on a business?; and what can we do as a society to eliminate sexual harassment? There is no fee for attending the workshop. To register, contact Bonnie Pizzo at 684-3630 or e- mail her at Pizzo@shore.inter- corn.net by April 19.
