I i 94 FRIDAY, APRIL 5- MONDAY, APRIL , 2013 SCHOOL & EDUC4TIUN Cape Gazette Briefly )) Jamestowne Society annual graduate fellowship available The ]amestowne Society in Richmond, Va., offers an an- nual fellowship in the amount of $2,000 to support the completion of a graduate student's thesis or l ssay on the history and culture bfVirginia prior to the year 1700. Applicants may be candidates for graduate degrees in any relevant academic discipline, such as his- tory, American studies, literature, archeology, fine arts, etc., as long as the research is devoted either exclusively, or very substantially, to Colonial Virginia prior to the year 1700. Applicants should furnish a brief resume, a proposal outlin- ing the topic of the thesis or essay, a description of the appli- cant's plans to bring the thesis or essay to completion and a brief writing sample. Also required are three refer- ences, two of whom have taught the applicant at graduate school level, and all three of which should provide letters of refer- ence for the applicant. The application deadline is Monday, April 15, after which the ]amestowne Society Fellowship Committee reviews applications and selects the award winner. The committee's decision is announced at the spring semi- annual meeting of the society at Williamsburg in May. Applicants do not have to be eligible for membership in the ]amestowne Society, and the award is not based upon the recipient's place of origin, resi- dence, sex, religious affiliation, nationality or race. The Fellowship Committee requires that fellowship recipi- ents submit a final project, to be retained by and to become the property of the society. Re- cipients are expected to adhere to the following schedule in preparing and submitting their projects: May, announcement of award; Sept. 15, submission of bibliography and project outline; ]an. 15, first draft of project due; and April 15, final project due.
