National Auxiliary president to visit Delaware at end of April Connie Atkinson, national pres- ident of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign War, will make her of- ficial visit to Delaware the weekend of April 24-26. She will stay at the Com- fort Inn in Newark. An "Aisle of Flags" will ATKINSON greet her up- on her arrival in Delaware at the Thomas Cooper Post in Newark. On Friday, April 24, a dinner will be served at the post at 6 p.m. On Saturday, April 25, the Ma- son-Dixon Auxiliary in Ocean View will host a luncheon at noon at their post home. Camden-Wyoming auxiliary will serve dessert and coffee at 8:30 p.m. in Atkinson's honor. Anyone who would like to at- tend any of the functions is asked to make a reservation. Adam was born at Beebe Medical Center, weighing in at 7 lbs, 6 oz., and was 21 inches long. His maternal grandparents are Gary and Bonnie Walstead of Georgetown, and his paternal grandparents are Dave and Esther Johnson of Washington, D.C. Adam's great-grandparents are Marcus and Della Willey of Mil- ton, Roscoe and Dorothy Adams of Georgetown, Cecil and Adalaide McClendon of Silver Spring, Md., and H.D. Johnson Sr. of Washington, D.C. First Town Club will meet April 21 The First Town Club of Lewes will hold a general meeting on Tuesday, April 21, at 7 p.m., at the Lewes Presbyterian Church, Kings Highway, Lewes. Rhoda Freidman will present a slide program titled, "Roof of the World." New members and guests are welcome. Those who attend are asked to bring nonperishable food items for the church food pantry. For more information, call 644- 0801. Atkinson was elected national president at the National Conven- tion, held in Salt Lake City. She and her husband own and operate a restaurant. Their family includes three sons and four grandchildren. A life member of Jesse W. Grisham Auxiliary 2259, she has demonstrated leadership skills during her 25 years of member- ship by earning honors as auxil- iary, district and department presi- dent, and has five times earned the status of national aide-de-camp for recruiting new members. She joined the auxiliary on the eligibility of her husband, Carroll, who served as a helicopter crew chief in Vietnam, and is a past all- state post commander. During her 1997-98 term of of- rice, she will be rallying the nearly 750,000 members to raise $3 mil- lion for the Auxiliary Cancer Aid and Research Fund for the 10th consecutive year. Atldnson is also active in many other civic and community organi- zations, including fundraising for the American Athletic Union Boys Basketball team.
