,. , "1 " . 62 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, April 10 - April 16, 1998 Michael Short photo Thom Lewis of Beach Marine works on a new Jet Dock system. Thom and Cindy Lewis are the owners of Beach Marine, which plans a grand opening at its new, expanded location on Route 1 on Saturday and Sunday. Beach Marine offers everything for boaters; grand opening slated for this weekend By Michael Short If you like boats, you will love Beach Marine. The newly ex- panded business provides sales, repairs, accessories, storage, shrink-wrap protection for boats, boat transportation, docks, trail- ers, marine electronics and even distributes several unique marine products. "It is tough to find something that we don't do with boats," said owner Thorn Lewis. Lewis and his wife, Cindy, own the business, which has relocated from near the Country Store to a much larger site on Route 1. The business is now located a half mile north of Nassau Bridge on the outskirts of Lewes. A grand opening is planned Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., on both days. The new location has offered the Lewis' room to grow. They previously only did repairs, but they now have ample room for a full range of marine services at a business where service is always first. "The bottom line is when we go to bed, we can put our heads down and sleep well because we know we have been fair to everyone," he said. "We are basically a full-service marine business. We try and put new and innovative products out," his wife added. Beach Marine sells Five Star, Sea Hawk, Load Rite and Shore Land'r boat trailers. There is a storage yard with room for 220 boats and the couple knows most of their customers by name. "I walked through the [storage] yard and there were only two boats whose owners I did not know," Thorn Lewis said. They do a full range of repairs, install and sell draw-tite boat hitches, power wash and bottom painting for boats, and they will sell or broker boats for owners. The storage yard offers some of the best storage prices in the area, with a $95 fee to store a boat all winter, a price that also includes a power wash. One of the most unique prod- ucts is a new boat docking system called Jet Dock. The Lewis' are the exclusive local dealers for the product. The docking comes with a lifetime warranty. It's consid- ered a drive-on dock, meaning boats can be driven directly onto the docking system. That means boats need less maintenance, can be launched much more easily and are far more accessible. "We are excited about the Jet Docks,'" Thom Lewis said. According to Jet Dock literature, boat owners report increased use of their boats because of accessibility and ease. Although they have not selected the model line, Beach Marine also plans to sell new boats. For now, they will broker boats and offerr new trailers, hitches and docking. They also provide a full range of marine electronics, Interstate batteries, accessories, charts and other boating needs. Two of the unique products they distribute are Pro-Tec and Salt Away. Pro- Tec is a line of fiberglass sealanL, conditioner, moisturizer, vinyl sealant and other products to keep your boat looking like it just came out of the showroom. "We hunt out what we feel are good products," Thorn Lewis said. Salt Away removes salt from boats and motors. Salt Away pro- motional literature describes the product as a "water-based formula of surface active agents, rust in- hibitors, corrosion blockers and other properties which attacks salt crystals and neutralizes their cor- rosive action," Thorn Lewis said The grand opening features a tent, free hot dogs, sodas, lots of door prizes and special sales on some items. Merchandise ranging from coolers to sunscreen and men's and women's nautical watches will be given away. For more information on the business or grand opening, call 645-7066.
