Eighth Ocean to Bay Bike Tour slated April 18 The annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour is Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Speed is not the buzz word for the event, because the bike tour is not a race against the clock. Participants may begin anytime between 8 and 9 a.m. It will offer riders a leisurely ride through the beautiful Sussex County country- side to see nature at its best. Rid- ers of all ages will find the terrain an enjoyable ride whether they choose the 20- or 50-mile course. The courses are designed so that riders can change from their se- lected course to either a shorter or longer route. This year's race offers riders the option to pledge their support to the largest conservancy organi- zation in the world, Ducks Urilim- ited. The group helps to preserve many of the wetlands along the bike tour as well. The recom- mended pledge is 25 cents per mile. This beautiful ride is designed for every rider. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and helmets are mandatory. The ride has two rest areas. At each designated rest area, there are restrooms available and volun- teers will be on hand to serve bev- erages and light snacks to give riders the extra energy they need. Throughout the day, support ve- hicles will be roving the routes to assist with bike repairs or trans- port riders if necessary. All registered riders will receive a free T-shirt and goodie bag after the ride. There will also be a grand finale party at Harpoon Hanna's Restau- rant in Fenwick Island from 5 to 7 p.m. Participants will also have the opportunity to win a bike and many other prizes, enjoy enter- tainment and goodies for their taste buds. It is necessary to be present at the event to be eligible for prizes. Preregistration is suggested but riders will be permitted to register on the day of the event. The fee is $30 after April 2.
