CAPE GAZETTE - Friday, April 11 - Monday, April 14, 2008 - 39 Bob Burnett-Kurie to retire from WBOC, FOX21 WBOC and FOX21 recently announced meteorologist Bob Burnett-Kurie will retire Sunday, June 1. "We're going to miss Bob," said WBOC/FOX21 News Director John Dearing. "He's been such a fixture at our stations for more than 12 years and a great meteorologist. But we understand and support his decision." During his tenure at the sta- tions, Burnett-Kurie spent nine years as chief meteorologist and quickly became a household name a c r o s s Delmarva. "It's been both challeng- ing and rewarding to predict and broadcast the weather for Delmarva," B'rT- Burnett-Kurie KURIE said. "Many people here are weather-conscious and weather-dependent, so they forecast." Burnett-Kurie said that while he will miss the excitement of TV and the joy of his many presenta- tions and workshops" in area schools and community organiza- tions, he looks forward to his retirement. "Believe it or not," he said with a laugh, "I'm 68 years old. It's time for me to retire and move back to New Hampshire where some of my family is." Burnett-Kurie currently teaches a weather course at Salisbury University. "While I'm happy for Bob, I'm saddened by our loss," said WBOC/FOX21 Chief Meteorologist Dennis Ketterer. "Bob has been a good educator and forecaster. I know we all appreciate the years Bob has served WBOC and Delmarva. We will enjoy our remaining weeks with Bob." In addition to spending time with his wife, Burnett-Kurie plans to enjoy his time traveling, play- ing bridge, skiing, hiking and spending time at the beach.
