Cape Gazette VIEWPOINTS, FRIDAY, APRIL 11- MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2014 9 Letters )) Continued from page 8 to thank all of you for your love, support and prayers since my fall last September. It has been a long road to recovery, but I am doing much better. I was overwhelmed during my stay at Renaissance Rehabilitation Facility with the cards, phone calls, flowers and visits from so many of you. Your support never wavered even when I was released from there and continued healing at home. I would also like to thank my staff members who went the ex- tra mile at the restaurant to make sure that our customers were taken care of in my absence. Our customers have always felt like family to me, and I have missed you all dearly. I have slowly been returning to the restaurant for a few hours at a time as I continue to regain my strength. Again, thank you all for keeping me in your prayers and I hope to be visiting you again soon...at your table so that I can ask you if everything is OKI Joan Caggiano owner Nicola Pizza THURSDAY $6 PIE NIGHT Shepherd's Pie / Fisherman's Pie o After 4 p.m. FRIDAY $5 LUNCH Battered Fish Sandwich Available 'til 4 p.m. SUNDAY 1/2 PRICE CHICKEN & CHIPS People's Place thanks CrossFit Lewes I am writing on behalf of the board of directors and the entire staff at People's Place to thank the members of CrossFit Lewes, their family and friends, and the many sponsors of the recent Share the Pain fundraiser. CrossFit Lewes members chose to support domestic violence survivors with their annual fundraising event and selected the SAFE Program of Peoples' Place to be the benefi- ciary of their second installment of Share the Pain. On March 15, at the CrossFit Lewes location, over 100 members, along with their family and friends, pre- sented a check in the amount of $33,000 for our domestic violence program. This year's Share the Pain 2 event paired nonmembers with members of CrossFit Lewes to compete as teams in a series of workouts that gave nonmembers the opportunity to find out what CrossFit is, and that it is a great exercise program for anyone, no matter your age or size. Although the real purpose of the event was to raise money for the domestic violence program at People's Place, it quickly became evident that CrossFit Lewes is composed of an extremely generous and caring group of individuals that became passionate about helping victims. The members were all aware that the money they were raising would be used to help domestic violence survivors get back on their feet and transition safely to new homes of their own. Additionally, this funding will help replace some of the lost grant money the SAFE program suffered this past year. It allows us to provide assistance with security deposits, first month's rent, and utility deposits for those who are ready to leave the shelter and are struggling to survive on their own with limited money and resources. Kris Carper, owner of CrossFit Lewes, and Craig Klasic, CrossFit Lewes trainer, worked tirelessly for months obtaining sponsor- ships and spreading the word to the surrounding community about the cause. The CrossFit members also contributed by raising donations and sponsor- ship money in their names for the competition. We are very hon- ored to be chosen this year and want to thank all those involved with the planning and process of putting together such a wonder- ful event. We also would like to thank the following local business sponsor- ships: Schell Brothers, Atlantic Transportation, George & Lynch, i.g. Burton, Cape Gazette, Ortho- paedic Associates of Southern Delaware, Big Chill Surf Cantina, LuRong Living, County Bank, Reebok, Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, Root Gourmet Res- taurant, Dogfish Head, AgVisory, LifeAsRx, Meineke, and the Dela- ware Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Also, a big thank you to the Big Chill Surf Cantina for kicking off the event festivities by holding a pre-Share the Pain fundraiser Feb. 21 and donating 15 percent of all proceeds that evening. In conclusion, People's Place is very grateful for the support and huge donation received for our SAFE Program, and we are dedicated to becoming the agency of choice to "help people find their path to growth and independence." We hope that you will visit our website to learn more about the services the dedi- cated staff at the SAFE Program provide for domestic violence survivors, under the supervision of Marcey Rezac, LCSW, DVS. If you know someone who may need help regarding a domestic violence issue please contact the 24 hour Domestic Violence Ho- tline at 302-422-8058 or 302-678- 3886. People's Place offers the community a variety of different programs, ranging from Coun- seling Centers to the Veterans Outreach Program. Milford American Red Cross appreciates volunteers The American Red Cross Del- marva Region is celebrating its volunteers and the work they do in the community during Nation- al Volunteer Week, April 6-12. Last year, our volunteers pro- vided food, shelter, comfort and hope to 350 local families who faced home fires and other disas- ter situations. Volunteers sup- ported the training of over 8,000 people in lifesaving skills and assisted 431 military members, veterans and their families. In addition, our volunteers worked to ensure over 2,500 Delmarva residents received emergency preparedness training - in the face of disaster, preparation is critical to creating a resilient community. I invite Delmarva residents to sign up to volunteer and be a part of our lifesaving work. We are looking for diverse volunteers of all ages and skill levels. Go to www.redcross.org/deimarva to learn more about volunteering with us and how to submit a vol- unteer application. From 2 a.m. fire calls to CPR/First Aid classes to services to the Armed Forces to blood drives, our volunteers are the lifeblood of the American Red Cross! I extend my sincerest thanks to the over 500 local Red Cross volunteers who help us fulfill our mission 365 days a year, 24 hours a day here on the Delmarva Pen- insula. We could not do what we do without all of our dedicated volunteers!
