Beebe laboratory celebrates National Medical Lab Week Professionals to be recognized April 17-21; special events set The Medical Laboratory staff at Be, be Medical Center will offer a display open to the public in the In'st floor Sun Lobby in recogni- tion of National Medical Labora- tory Week, April 17-21. The staff is offering a game to be played by anyone interested, with a prize to be awarded on Fri- day, April 21. During Laboratory Week, over 250,000 medical laboratory pro- fessionals will be recognized for their dedication, expertise and contributions to quality patient care. instruments, run quality control specimens, attend continuing edu- cation, write procedures and pass inspections and exhibit pride in the life saving work they do. The medical laboratory at Beebe has been awarded a two- year accreditation by the Commis- sion of Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists, based on results of a recent on-site inspection. This makes Beebe's lab one of the more than 4,600 CAP-accred- ited laboratories nationwide, which has met all applicable stan- dards for accreditation. Medical technologists analyze blood and body fluids to aid the physician in the diagnosis, treat- ment and prevention of disease. The microbiology tech find the causative agents of infection, while crossmatches are performed in the blood bank before a patient receives a unit of blood. Hematologists perform com- plete blood counts and coagula- tion procedures which monitor bleeding disorders. Instrumentation in the chem- istry department assess the glu- cose, cholesterol, thyroid profiles and drug levels. Lewes, Delawar 648-9431 Breast cancer awareness program April 24 The Milford Senior Center and Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) of Delaware will hold a Purple Tea to introduce the American Cancer Society's Tell-A-Friend program. Tell-A-Friend is a personal out-reach program of encouragement and support among friends through tele- phone calls, to increase breast cancer awareness and the need for mam- mography. The Purple Tea will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Monday, April 24 at Shawnee Country Club, Milford. Guest speaker will be Lt. Gov. Ruth Ann Minner. Everyone should wear their best purple attire.
