Beebe School of Nursing hosts open house April 25 The Beebe School of Nursing in Lewes will host its annual open house for prospective students on Friday, April 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the School of Nursing. Students and faculty will provide tours and answer questions. The purpose of the open house is to acquaint high school students (grades 9-12) and others interested in pursuing a career in nursing with curriculum information, admission requirements and school facilities. Admission to the school is open to all qualified candidates who have graduated from an accredited high school or high school equiva- lency certificate (G.E.D.) with a recommended grade point average of 2.5 or greater. Other require- ments include completion of cer- tain high school courses such as math and science. The school's curriculum focuses on strong clinical practice, appli- cation and nursing theory early in the first year. Individual attention is available for each student in theory, clinical experience, and personal needs. The school also offers an Advanced Placement Program for the Licensed Practical Nurse or nursing students with prior educa- tional credits. For information on diabetes family weekend retreat or other ADA programs, call 684-8404. The camp runs all day Saturday and through Sunday morning. Families sleep in Camp Barnes cabins or bring their own tents or campers. Weather does not seem to be a major factor in how much enjoy- ment or education campers accu- mulate. With the sun going down and temperatures dropping on Satur- day night, an overwhelming majority voted in favor of keeping the campfire sing-along out of doors rather than retreating into the lodge. Free diabetes screening Wednesdays at Beebe Beebe Medical Center, in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association, provides free blood glucose testing (by finger stick) each Wednesday from 1 to3 p.m. in the Phlebotomy Lab on the first floor. Patients should take the test two hours after eating a normal meal. Call 645-3568 for an appointment.
