Steppin' Out 52 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, April 18- April 24, 1997 Dogfish Head will present contemporary American artists The Sties on Friday, April 18. Continued page 50 addition is Gary Sunshine on gui- tar. For Salas-Humara, one can cite everything from the musical gath- erings of his Cuban family to the groups Velvet Underground and Big Star. Hess has played in scores of bands from his native Texas, most notably the Poi Dog Pondering, and was also in the seminal L.A. Paisley underground band Green On Red. The band's sound is reminiscent of The Velvet Underground, with undertones of R.E.M. and country echoes that recall Gram Parsons. Salas-Humara's enigmatic lyrics are so plain-spoken that they have oracular overtones. He has said he "would rather not ex- plain his songs because he found his own experience of music di- minished after behind told what was in the songwriter's mind." The Silos currently have five al- bums, and are working on a new project. The Dogfish Head show begins at 9:30 p.m., and includes a $5 cover charge. For more informa- tion, call 226-BREW (2739).
