Two Beebe School of Nursing students awarded scholarships Two Beebe School of Nursing students were recently honored with scholarships from the estate of Louise Jarmon Hopkinson, a 1932 graduate of Beebe School of Nursing who served in the Army Nurse Corps and as a private duty nurse at Beebe Hospital for many years. The Hop- kinson scholarship is awarded annually to a senior and a junior student with the highest aca- demic average. Anne Cross, awarded the scholarship for the senior student, previously attended Michigan State University prior to pursuing nursing at Beebe. Cross has a special interest in surgical nursing. Tracie Walker, a junior student, is a Georgetown resident who earned an associate's degree in applied sciences from Delaware Technical & Community Col- lege in early childhood education prior to attending Beebe School of Nursing. Both Walker's mother, Connie Walker, and grandmother, Camille Betts, were graduates of the Beebe School of Nursing. March of Dimes walk set for April 27 The March of Dimes Walk mlerica will be held at noon on Sunday, April 27 at Grove Park in Rehoboth Beach. The walk is being sponsored nationally by Cigna Healthcare, K-Mart, Kel- logg's and Florida Orange Grow- ers. For more information, call (302) 737-1310. Diabetes education to begin Monday, May 5 Diabetic Education classes for diabetics and their families are held at Beebe Medical Center at the Beebe School of Nursing from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The cost is $79 for the series, or $15 for an individual class. Call 645-3251 to register. Focus on Health Beebe sets two free seminars in May Beebe Medical Center will pre- sent two seminars in their "Focus on Health" series in May. "Sports Injuries," presented by Beebe Medical Center orthopaedic surgeon Hugo Davalos, M.D. will be held on Thursday, May 8 at the Sussex Family YMCA from 7 to 8 p.m. Beebe internist Maribel Garcia- Zaragoza, M.D. will offer "Pre- ventive Medicine" on Thursday, May 29 at the Milton Library from. 7to 8 p.m. Both seminars are free and open to the pubfic. One Day at a Time to meet May 5 "One Day at a Time," a mutual support group for persons with life-threatening illnesses, their life families and other interested per- sons meet at Beebe Medical Cen- ter on Monday, May 5 at 1 p.m. For more information, call Beebe's Oncology Department at 645-3770. Aortic aneurysm screenings set April 30 Beebe Medical Center will sponsor free aortic abdominal aneurysm screenings, April 30 for males between 60 and 75 who have a history of cigarette smok- ing, hypertension, coronary artery disease and a family history of aortic aneurysm. Also eligible are females with a positive history of aneurysm. Call 645-3710 to schedule an appointment.
