Mending families topic of Del Tech Conference April-25
Healthy families are an inherent
part of a healthy society and pro-
vide a solid foundation for the
next generation. Aware of the ele-
ments that besiege families every
day, the Families in Crisis Confer-
ence ,ill focus on "Mending
Families" at the 15th annual event
on Friday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to
4 p.m. at the Delaware Technical
& Community College, Owens
Campus.
An unusual highlight of the con-
ference will be the keynote pre-
sentation by Seven Quilts for Sev-
en Sisters and their performance
"A Stitch in Time." Originally
from New Jersey, the Williams
sisters combine their knowledge
of African American slave history
and the practical craft of quilting
to educate and entertain simulta-
neously.
The joys of sisterhood and the
trials of slave life are depicted
through a mixture of history, au-
thentic period costumes, heart-
warming tales and spiritual har-
monies. Enhancing the program is
a beautiful display of picturesque
quilts.
Designed to bring together indi-
viduals who are concerned with
improving the quality of social
services delivery on Delmarva,
the conference includes 10 profes-
sionally presented workshops on
topics including: managing feel-
ings, attention deficit disorder, a
nursing perspective on families in
crisis, building bridges within the
family, humor and laughter, art
therapy, multicultural counseling
for service workers, fathers and
children, and understanding man-
aged care.
The lunehtime presentation will mation for the Seaf0rd School ning of this conference. The
