Diner Continued from page 43 standards can be found on The Great American Diner's menu, as well as off-the-beaten path choic- es. For breakfast, there are classics such as bacon and eggs, omelets, flapjacks, waffles and French Toast. Also featured are breakfast sandwiches like the Californian (bacon, grilled tomatoes, fried onions, eggs and cheese) and the Philadelphia (scrapple, egg and cheese). Under the "Breakfast Specials" heading you'll find "Chip Off the Old Block," (also known as cream chipped beef), and "Tango," a combination of sautted apples and a thin coating of cream cheese, stuffed between batter-dipped egg bread and grilled. The breakfast menu will range in price from $2.95-$5.25, and will be served until noon each day. Served from noon until 5 p.m., lunch includes salads, hot and cold sandwiches and six different kinds of hamburgers. House spe- cialties for lunch include the Texas Tommy (a super-sized hot dog, split and stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon and deep-fried) and the Monte Cristo (Texas-style bread battered and grilled with ham, cheese and tomato, dusted with powdered sugar). Lunch prices begin at $1.50. Included on the traditional din- ner menu are favorites such as Mom's Homemade Meatloaf (three slices of homemade meat- loaf covered with brown gravy) or Open-Faced Roast Beef or Turkey Platters (two slices of white bread covered with freshly-sliced meat md topped with gravy). Diners can also feast on pasta dishes such as extra large ravioli or Grandma Millie's four-layer lasagna. Traditional dinner prices range from $6.95-$8.95, and in- clude two side items. On the more exotic side, The Great American Diner features a special section of 21st century diner entrtes, which you won't likely find on any other diner's menu. . Fresh salmon, tuna and flounder grace this portion of the menu, as well as crab cakes, stuffed floun- der, shrimp scampi, Chicken Marsalla, Veal Picante and Steak Diane. All ingredients used for the menu are prepared fresh on the premises, said the Santingini brothers. A full slate of ice cream sodas, floats, milkshakes and sundaes will be offered, as well as home- made desserts.
