venture and discovery" to high
school students and prison in-
mates. He graduated from George
Washington University, Washing-
ton, D.C. and was awarded the
Delaware State Arts Council
Emerging Artist Grant in Poetry
in 1981. His workshop will con-
centrate on getting started by us-
ing prompts and exercises to help
begin the writing process. The
goal is to write about things that
are important to the student and to
discover these things from memo-
ties, feelings and imagination. All
participants need are pen and pa-
per and an open mind. The cost is
$25 for members and $35 for
nom-members.
Sharon Stocldey, a well-known
jewelry artisan who also makes
her living from her craft and has
become a popular RAL teacher,
will offer a new course entitled
"Art Jewelry with Glass Beads
and Found Materials" from 10:30
a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday and
Friday, May 9-10. Stockley, who
has a studio in Denton, Md., is a
B.F.A. graduate from the Mary-
land Institute of Art in Baltimore.
Her pieces, which appear in gal-
leries throughout Delmarva, are
known for both their beauty and
uniqueness and she often uses nat-
ural and lead-free and recycled
materials.
In this workshop, students will
design and create wearable art in
the form of neck pieces, barretted
pins or bracelets using materials
they bring such as glass, shells,
rocks, old jewelry and chains. Stu-
dents may bring any equipment
they have such as pliers, solder
irons and files, but the instructor
will also supply basic tools. The
cost of the workshop is $45 for
members and $55 for non-mem-
bers plus a material fee'of $25 that
should be paid to the instructor the
first day of class. Participants are
encouraged to bring a bag lunch.
Interested students should regis-
ter by calling the RAL office at
227-8408 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Monday through Saturday. Space
is limited.
