46 - CAPE ETE, Friday, May 2- May 8, 1997 FinQuest boosts business of business Accounting Former CoreStates chairman, wife offer help from lewes office By Rosaue Pack A new business created for the purpose of serving various finan- cial needs of businesses is now available in Lewes. FinQuest was founded by Blair McNeill, a for- mer CEO with more than 20 years experience in financial services. McNeill and his wife, Cather- ine, formed FinQuest to help lo- cal businesses with financing and acquisition services. The profes- sional services are tailored for small and midsize companies in Delaware and Eastern Shore Maryland. Observing businesses in the area, they saw that expansions would make proper financing crit- ical for many of them; and .expan- sions could lead to acquisition or possibly sale of an enlarged busi- ness. "Virtually every business will have an in need for capital. Some may choose to grow through acquiring another compa- ny, and some will eventually con- sider selling," McNeill said. "We're here to provide profes- sional support to these businesses as they face such challenges." As the former chairman and CEO of CoreStates Bank of Delaware and CEO of First Omni Bank in Millsboro, McNeill has experience in financial services, mergers and acquisitions. In addi- tion to his banking experience, he was president of Upland Re- sources Inc., a merger, acquisition and consulting company, and he has held positions with large food manufacturing and distribution corporations such as General Foods and Pepperidge Farms. Before moving to Sussex Coun- ty, he and his family spent many years with large corporations in big cities. He finds the transition of bringing his professional exper- tise to a different arena a pleasant one. "For years, I've wanted to serve small businesses from a small town location. I'm delighted to be based in Lewes and to be helping clients in towns throughout Delaware and Maryland's eastern shore," he said. "I enjoy the whole area as well as working with the owners of lo- cal businesses." For businesses in need of fi- nancing, FinQuest obtains capital through its connections with local, regional and national lenders. The McNeills said that there are many financing opportunities besides commercial loans. According to the FinQuest founders, business owners are increasing their use of factoring, leasing, purchase order financing and other funding sources. "Businesses also expand through the purchase of other companies," the former CEO said. "Whether acquiring or selling, the process takes considerable time and expertise. Help from an expe- rienced professional increases the likelihood of a sound transaction for both parties while reducing the potential for mistakes." Catherine McNeill points out that financing a business requires different expertise from that need- ed for financing real property, whether residential or commer- cial. In addition, she said purchas- ing or selling a business requires skills of an experienced business broker. F inQuest brokering services in- Continued on page 47 Michael Real REAL ELEGANCE!
