Given this, DART First State, the statewide transit service of the Delaware Transit Corporation, has announced a new initiative aimed at helping newly hired em- ployees. The new program, called "Get A Job, Get A Ride," is targeted at helping new hires get to work dur- ing the first three weeks of em- ploymenc When companies follow a sim- ple procedure for their new em- ployees, DART First State will provide public transportation to get the new hires to the new jobs. This program is provided at no cost to either the employer or the employee. To obtain this free offer, the employer must send DART First State a letter on company letter- head including the following in- formation: Name and address of new em- ployee. Start date. Days and hours scheduled to work. Work address (where the new employee will be reporting). Employer contact and phone number. Once DART receives this letter, one free bus pass along with schedule information will be sent to the new employee's home. Then 29 more free ride passes will be sent to the employer to give to the employee on the first day of work. The program represents a "win- win" situation for everyone. Using the Get A Job, Get A Ride pro- gram, compan/es will benefit by having a larger employment pool to draw from since the potential hiring market will not be limited only to persons with access to per- sonal cars; companies and em- ployees will also benefit because transportation problems that force ,new employees to miss work will be largely eliminated; the regional economy will benefit by having more people working; and DART First State believes that once the new hires experience the conve- nience and reliability of public transit for the work trip commute, the employees will become loyal customers who will continue to use and support its services.
