National Day of Prayer observed in Georgetown
Members of the Georgetown Ministers Association pitched a tent on Georgetown's Circle,
April 28, and began reading the Bible around the clock from beginninng to end, an accom-
plishment they expected to be complete Thursday, May 1, coinciding with the National Day of
Prayer. Shown reading from the English language King James version of the Bible is Candy
Abbott of Georgetown Presbyterian Church. A Spanish edition of the King James version al-
lows Hispanics to read also. "We have timed the reading and we will meet our deadline, said
Abbott. "The Old Testament is slow reading with all those long and hard-to-prenounee names.
When we get to the New Testament, we make up for the lost time in the Old Testament.,, Each
reader reads for about 15 m/nutes. Volunteers signed up to participate. "Many of them signed
up for the wee hours of the morning, said Abbott. "There aren't too many of us reading dur-
ing the days."
