"Wework closely with lo- cal churches to lend support in any way we can," Harmon said. "While we ale a fraternal organi- zation, we are also religious in character, Our system is one of morality and ethical conduct that imparts social virtues and fosters brotherly love." The lodge is affiliated with Prince Hall, believed to be the country's first black mason, said Harmon. Hall, who lived in Mass- achusetts, journeyed to England to petition for a charter in 1787 be- cause as a black man he would not that all humans are free and brethren. Those principals continue to draw member to the Rising Sun Lodge. Numbering approximately 70 members, the lodge continues to promote faith and good will. "We support our widows and or- phans," said Harmon. "Once a year we go out to Stokely Center and throw aCbristmas party for those folks. The center is a home for mentally-retarded individuals. "I've been a mem- ber for 42 years and am a better person from the moment I step foot in these doors," said Henry. "Today, we have a lot more knowledge and education to share with the community.
