24 - CAPE GAZETTE, Tuesday, May 10 - May 12, 2005 HEALTH & FITNESS Sussex County EMS bestows annual awards Sussex County EMS, Sussex County Paramedic Association and Sussex County Volunteer Am- bulance Association held the an- nual EMS banquet, April 29, in the Baywood Greens clubhouse in Millsboro. During the banquet, a number of awards were given for professionalism and achievement. Awards included Shift Excel- lence, EMT, EMS Nurse, EMS Physician, Emergency Communi- cations Specialist and Paramedic of the Year. Each year, one paramedic from each of the four shifts is selected for shift excellence by his or her supervisor for outstanding dedica- tion by improving clinical skills or outstanding achievement dur- ing participation or leadership in departmental programs or activi- ties. Shift Excellence- A Shift: Ray Fulkrod. Fulkrod received this award for his tireless efforts to im- prove patient care and safety. He has been a member of the safety board and the Executive Quality Committee. In addition, Fulkrod has completed his bachelor's de- gree and is now working toward his masters. He is married and lives in Millville. Fulkrod has been with SCEMS since 2002. Shift Excellence - B Shift: Er- ic Huovinen. Huovinen has been a field training officer and a para- medic III.
