New members inducted into Daughters of the American Revolution Two new members were in- ducted May 13 into the Col. David Hall Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revo- lution. Karoline Kent’s revolutionary patriot is Abial Whitman. He was born in Massachusetts, died in Vermont and served in the New Hampshire Continental Line as a private. Not every revolutionary pa- triot carried a rifle. Liz Messick is a descendent of John Maull, recognized for his service during the fight against the British by providing pro- visions and labor to launch a schooner from Lewes. Chapter members support the organization’s mission of his- toric preservation, patriotism and education with service proj- ects throughout the community, to include maintaining the ca. 1739 Maull House on Pilottown Road, awarding Good Citizen scholarships and JROTC medals, delivering home-cooked meals to the Home of the Brave, recogniz- ing new citizens at naturalization ceremonies and marking the graves of Revolutionary Patriots. Each year, the chapter hosts a Memorial Day wreath-laying cer- emony at the grave of Col. David Hall in the Lewes Presbyterian Churchyard. The society is an apolitical ser- vice organization with chapters around the world. Women over the age of 18 who can prove direct lineal descent from a revolutionary patriot are eligible for membership. The Lewes-based chapter cur- rently has 153 active members and nine associate members. For more information, contact Denise Clemons at 302-645-2089 or dmclemons@comcast.net.
