In a daring raid on a Harbor Healthcare Center hide.out, peace officers (l-r) Sheriff Joyce
Eisner and her deputies, Gwyneth Moyer and Florence Maloney apprehend some bawdy
babes from the old west, (l-r) Maggie Tice and Olive Ward.
Harbor Healthcare Center
goes very wild and west
By Rosanne Pack
The jails were full and the sher-
iff's deputies had itchy fingers in
the usually sedate and calm Har-
bor Healthcare Center. The obser-
vance of National Nursing Home
Week caused the residents and
staff to "Go West" as they turned
their facility into Dodge City.
All week, May 11-17, staff and
residents of Harbor "Dodge City"
Heaithcare recognized and cele-
brated the many contributions
made to the community by health
care facilities all over the country.
In keeping with the wild west
theme, locations throughout the
facility were renamed to create the
feeling of the old west.
Wide brimmed cowboy hats and
scuffed up western boots had re-
placed uniforms and street
clothes. The Duke had been on
duty in the director's office, and a
Native American Indian erected a
teepee in the front lobby to watch
the fun.
And, certain nefarious deeds
caused several staff members to
be designated "bad guys," com-
plete with wanted posters stuck up
• around the halls and meeting
rooms.
Although the bandits and
rustlers tried to disguise them-
selves with eye glasses and some
suspiciously fake facial hair, most
citizens of Dodge City picked out
such characters as Olive Ward,
Maggie Tice and Sandy Dole.
The citizenry of Harbor "Dodge
City" Healthcare were protected
by the capable team of Sheriff
Joyce Eisner and her deputies,
Gwyneth Moyer and Florence
Maloney. The sheriff and deputies
were on steady patrol in the halls,
and several desperadoes were
thrown in the hoosgow throughout
the week.
Eisner said that her deputies
were quick to capture and truss up
any who were on the wrong side
of the law. The deputieswere out-
fitted with pop-guns and badges,
and each had her own steed of the
stick breed.
When not behind bars, Dole
said that the staged western events
included meals and activities in all
areas of the center.
Mail was delivered by Pony Ex-
press, and meals rolled up to
rooms via the chuck wagon or
were served at the OK Corral. Al-
though meals were peaceful most
of the week, there were rumors
that a shoot-out on the order of the
infamous gunfight might breakout
later at the OK Corral.
A local blacksmith and a troupe
of square dancers were included
in the week's festivities.
Although details were sketchy,
a cow patty pitching contest al-
legedly took place early in the
week.
