26 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, May 23 - May 29, 1997 Education for Ministry open house set June 1 The Theological School of the University of the South has developed a four-year "Education in Ministry" program which is being offered in Millsboro. The course is designed for those with other responsibilities, such as jobs and family, who hunger for more depth than the usual Bible study. The course stresses examination of the scriptures, theological reflection and learning to lead others in worship. A group has been meeting at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Millsboro during the past year and plans to expand by brining in new students in the fall of 1997. The course is offered to members of any denomination and is designed so that students from the first year through the fourth study together. The University of the South is an accredited Episcopal College and 18 CEUs are awarded for each year of study completed. Interested persons are invited to an open house at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 1 at Genesis, the Episcopal mission in Seafarer's Center, Long Neck Road (across from the Crab Barn). Those attending will have the opportunity to meet the group and its mentor. For more information, contact the Rev. Elizabeth Turner at 945-4020. Strawberry Festival set for St. George's Chapel "You can never get your fill of strawberies and ice cream," said Helen Abbott, co-chairman of the St. George's Chapel Strawberry Festival, set for 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 7 at the chapel, Route 23, Angola. The rain date is Sunday, June 8. This year, rather than a crafts show, the church is planning a magic show with Jack Noel to raise money for the new parish hall. As with the 1995 festival, where will be music in the chapel by parishioner Fritz Hessemer. In the adjoining farmhouse there will be strawberries, King's Ice Cream and biscuits or cake with tickets $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12. Entertainment and food are covered with one ticket. Noel, a well-known magician in the area, will do two shows of magic tricks - bring a blanket and enjoy the outdoor shows at 1:30 and 3 p.m. St. George's Episcopal Chapel is 278 years old and holds regular Sunday services. In the summer they are held at 8 and 9:30 a.m. Nearly 200 members strong, the chapel members, supported by All Saints' Church members in Rehoboth Beach, want to build a parish hall so they can meet growing needs and extend their outreach. "We're hoping that a parish hall will bring even more people, young and old, to our chapel," said Abbott, adding that those wishing more information should call Virginia Heath at 945-0401. To get to St. George's Chapel, drive to Five Points and head toward Georgetown on Route 9, bearing left to get on Route 23. The chapel is arrpoximately four miles on the fight on Route 23. Or, go toward Millsboro on Route 24, head past Burton's Pond and turn fight onto Route 48. Go to Route 23 and turn right. The chapel is a mile on the left. Presbyterian Church meeting in Rehoboth The Presbyterian Church in America will hold a six-week series of meetings at 7:30 p.m., each Sunday, beginning June 1, at Brighton Suites in Rehoboth. The meeting will provide information on the history and structure of PCA and assess the interest in starting a church in the Cape Region. Child care provided.
