The official opening of the Cen- ter on April 19 was an important event for the people of Delaware and the peninsula. The water and wastewater operators who will re- ceive training at the Environmen- tal Center are the first line of de- fense against pollution. One of the finest in the country, the center has a pump training room with state-of-the-art equipment, several classrooms and a highly skilled instructional staff. According to Gerald Esposito, director for the Division of Water Resources at the Department of Natural Re- sources and Environmental Con- Center opens in Sussex trol, education is a vital part of his agency's role, "and we couldn't do this without Delaware Tedh." In addition to the latest equip- ment, the Environmental Training Center also boasts an unparalleled Advisory Committee, which in- cludes members of state and na- tional environmental agencies, private citizens and public offi- cials. Edward Hallock, program manager of the Office of Drinking Water for the Delaware Division of Public Health, noted that the center "will play a critical role in the environmental status of this state." An unexpected highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a monetary donation to the cen- ter by Debbie Hubbard, represen- tative of the Eastern Shore Section of the Water/Wastewater Opera- tors Association.
