Burton, botI of Mills- Obituaries )) Bessie Mae Andrews, childcare provider Bessie Mae Andrews, 71, of Milford, was born March 19,1944, in Cuthbert, Ga, She departed this life Thursday, May 21, 2015. She is preceded in death by her father Wilmer Jefferson; and brother Wayne Jefferson Bessie graduated from William C. Jason High School in 1967. She furthered her education at Del Tech Community College, where she received her degree. She was employed at NCR at Millsboro until she decided to open her own childcare center. Bessie enjoyed working with children and remained a child- care provider until her health began to fail. In the early '70s Bessie joined PPHC under the leadership of Bishop M. Foster. She worked diligently in the ministry. Service will be held at Phila- delphia Pentecostal Holiness Church, 13724 South Old State Road, Ellendale, at 1 p.m., Friday May 29. Family and friends may visit two hours prior. James 'Jim' 6ayhardt, Lewes BPW member James George "Jim" Gayhardt, 83, died Wednesday, May 21, 2015, following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Beverly Lanning Gayhardt; his son, Patrick; his daughter-in-law, Laura Kay; his son-in-law, Lance Roth; and his two grandchildren: Jameson Elizabeth and Paris Lanning Roth; his brother, Don- ald Francis Gayhardt; and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter Anne Gayhardt Roth; and his sister Phyllis Gayhardt Helm. Born and raised in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Francis Patrick Gayhardt and Evelyn Cecilia (Hines) Gayhardt, he graduated from Catonsville High School in 1950. He attended The University of Baltimore, graduating in 1954 with a bachelor's degree in busi- ness. He met his future wife Beverly in 1955 while deployed in Poitiers, France with the U.S. Army. During his career, he worked for Johnson & Jim Gayhardt Johnson and The Bugle Linen Service before ioining Tele- Tector of Baltimore as a partner in 1972. He not only took pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during his time in business. He retired in 1990, joining Bev- erly in Heidelberg, Germany, where they lived until 1995. After Germany, they lived in Lewes, where he did volunteer work for CASA and Shields Elementary School, working with disadvan- taged children. He also did volunteer work for the Lewes Canalfront Park, taught classes at Osher, and served on the Lewes Board of Public Works from 2007 40. He had a passion for jazz mu- sic; golf, French wine, Maryland crabs, Berger's cookies, bad jokes and the Orioles. He was known for his dry wit, sense of humor and infectious laugh. He was devoted to his family and his friends. There will be a memorial ser- vice Tuesday, July 28 at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of the Resur- rection, 11525 Greenspring Ave., Lutherville-Timonium, Md. Byrd, retired cafeteria worker Dorothy Evelyn Byrd, 87, of Millsboro, departed this life Sat- urday, May 16, 2015, in Conyers, Ga. She was born in Millsboro, the daughter of the late Herbert L. Burton Sr. and Florence E. Burton Nov. 16, 1927. Dorothy was employed as a cafeteria worker for the East Millsboro Elementary School, where she retired. Dorothy was married to Elton Byrd (deceased) for 48 years. Out of this union they had two children: Dennis E. Byrd (de- of Conyers. She is survived by a daughter: Cynthia Byrd Allen, and her husband Richard; two grand- sons: Richard and Rylan Allen of Conyers; six brothers: William E. Burton of Philadelphia, Pa., Charles T. Burton of Millsboro, John E. Burton of Selbyville, Oliver V. Burton of Dagsboro, H. Nelson Burton of Dover and Joseph L. Burton of W'flmington. In addition, she is survived by three sisters: Martha V. Wise boro, and Princess C. 1]'urnell of Georgetown; along with many nieces, nephews, extend and friends.
