ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT FRIDAY, MAY 29 - MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2015 9~ Reception slated for Saturday, June 6 in Lewes Beginning with a reception Saturday, June 6; from 5 to 7:30 p.m., the Peninsula Gallery will present a special exhibit titled Views of the Maritime that will feature 17 East Coast artist members of The Ameri- can Society of Marine Artists. "This is a first-time effort for the gal- iery," says BJ Clark, owner. "We have had themed shows in the past, but in this show we feature 17 artist members of the prestigious American Society of Marine Artists." WITH 17 ARTISTS AND OVER 45 PAINTINGS, THE EXHIBITION WILL PRESENT A VARIETY PAINTING STYLES AND SUBJECT MATERIAL LINKED TO THE M~.RITIME THEME OF THE SHOW. Several local artists, including Steve Rogers of Lewes, Jack Wiberg of Rehoboth Beach, and Karin Snoots of Harbeson, are in the show. A variety of work will be presented with paintings of different mediums, including oil, acrylic and water- color, and one artist, Teresa L.C. Ahmad, who works in pen and ink. With 17 artists and over 45 paintings, Keith Larson's "Port Tack For the Mark." the exhibition will present a variety paint- ing styles and subject material linked to the maritime theme of the show ASMA members in the show come from up and down the East Coast, representing six states, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Del- aware. All of the artists are award-winners, and many are members of prestigious art clubs, including the New York-based Salamagundi Club, and several national associations of oil, pastel and watercolor societies. The gallery will present a Steve Rogers boat model for sale as part of the exhibit. The model is a Deltaville, Va.-style patent- tong oyster boat. This particular design is unique to Deltaville. The full-size boats are around 40 feet long and heavily built to withstand the stiff chop on the Chesa- peake. The model is in 3/4-inch scale and approximately 30 inches long. It features the more modern hydraulic tongs. It is named Dorothy M. PENINSU LA GALLERY WILL PRESENT a Steve Rogers boat The model is a Deltaville, Va,-style patent-tong oyster boat. Founded in 1978, the American Society of Maritime Artists is a nonprofit orga- nization whose purpose is to recognize and promote marine art and maritime history. The society.seeks to encourage cooperation among artists, historians, marine enthusiasts and others engaged in activities relating to marine art and maritime history.
