CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, May 30 - June 7, 1997 - 34 Heart 0000-;sociation to scramble on the links Golfers from all over Delmarva are invited to take part in a golf scramble - the Third Annual Heart of Delaware Golf Classic to be held Thursday, June 5 at Jonathan's Landing Golf Course. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with shotgun start at noon. The rain date for the tournament is June 12. All golfers are invited to partic- ipate, and this year the Classic will feature a special Delmarva Cardi-Hackers Flight for those who have had any of the follow- ing cardiac procedures: open heart surgery, angioplasty/stent, pace- maker, defibrillator, bypass or valve surgery. This is an opportu- nity for those who have benefited from the research sponsored by the American Heart Association to help ensure that it will continue. Participation in the Heart of Delaware Golf Classic will enable golfers to join the fight that is so critical in saving lives - both young and old - from cardiovascu- lar diseases and stroke. As the number one killer in Delaware, heart disease claims a life every 34 seconds. The American Heart Association believes research and education are the key to saving lives. For every dollar invested in research, five dollars are saved in medical care. The pacemaker, CPR, bypass surgery and angio- plasty are just a few of the Ameri- can Heart Association's success- es. Additionally, education pro- grams reach Delawareans where they work, go to school and receive their bealthcare. The 18-hole Heart of Delaware Classic features a scramble for- mat, with prizes for hole-in-one, closest to the pin, and longest dri- ve, plus team prizes and much more. The $65 entry fee ($50 for Jonathan's Landing members) includes greens fee, golf cart, on- course refreshments, cookout for players and the awards party after- wards. To play in the tournament, golfers should call the American Heart Association office at (302) 734-9321, Dick McCarty at (302) 653-8848 or Jack McGuire at (302) 697-2267.
