Nicholas Kmetz is recipient of Knights of Columbus scholarship : MARY SEARS PHOTO SHOWN (LIP.) The Knights of Columbus St. Molua Council has announced the recipient of the $1,000 2008 college scholarship, Nicholas Kmetz, a senior at Indian River High SchooL Kmetz plans to attend Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Academically, Kmetz is ianked seventh in his graduating class of 161. He is a member of the Nation- al Honor Society and has earned both All-Conference and All State Academic Honors. He is a member of the math league and tutors fellow students in math. He was vice president of his class in iunior year. Kmetz also participates in football, basketball, basebaU and wrestling and has been captain for three of these sports. He works with the Hand-In- Help Program with the Blue- Gold All-Star football game. In that role, he has been assigned to assist three boys who live in a group home in Red Lion. He is a mentor for behaviorally chal- lenged students at Phillip Show- ell Elementary SchooL Kmetz is an active volunteer in the community. Within his parish, he has served as a teacher's aide for the seventh grade CCD class and has traveled to the National Cathe- dral with his confamation class and was also chosen to represent Delmatare at the National Leader- Ship Conference in Indianapolis, Ind. He also worked as a facilitator at the state conference upon coming home from the National Leadership Conference.
