St. George's Chapel site
of art, strawberry festival

"I like the idea of the St.
George's Chapel Art &
Strawberry Festival," said Chapel
committee vice chairman Jim
Horn, prominent resort
businessman whose family has
deep roots in Rehoboth Beach.
"It shows what we can do with
limited facilities and a small
congregation," said Horn. "It also
represents old country atmosphere
and tradition."
St. George's Art and Strawberry
Festival will be held on Saturday,
June 17 at historic, 275-year-old
St. George's Episcopal Chapel in
Angola. All are welcome. The
time for the event is 2-5 p.m. A
rain date of Sunday afternoon,
June 18, has been announced by
event chairman Helen Abbott.
Horn is currently working with a
special chapel group to determine
the feasibility
of a new
parish hall for
St. George's.
Up until this
point, all

given to them by All Saints'
Parish. "When All Saints' gets
ready to expand the cemetery,"
said Horn, "we lose the land, and
so we are trying to plan ahead for
the future." St. George's
members' artwork will be shown
in the beautiful, restored St.
George's Chapel. Ruth Morris of
Milton, an award-winning quilter
in the area, will show her latest
effort, the Baltimore Album Quilt,
plus several other quilts.
A dozen or more St. George's
artists will show their artwork at
this event, with everything from
prize-winning afghans to pottery,
paintings, painted china, and hand-
carved ducks and songbirds.
Fritz Hessemer of Rehoboth
Beach will provide easy listening,
musical inspiration on the flute,
accompanied by Westminster
Presbyterian Church's organist,
Gene Yenni, on the new St.
George's organ.
At the nearby farmhouse,
members of the St. George's
Episcopal Church Women will
host a Spring Strawberry Festival
with local berries, ice cream and
sponge cakes or biscuits. The cost
for the strawberry treat, plus the
chance to see the artists' work, is
$5 for adults and $3 for children
under 12.

Chapel from Rehoboth Beach, go
out Rt. 24 to Rt. 48 (past Button's
Pond). Turn right on Rt. 48 and go
to County Road 285 (now Rt. 23).
Turn right. The chapel is a mile on
your left. To get to St. George's
Chapel from Lewes, go to Five
Points. Bear left on County Road
28523 (to the left of Rt. 9). Go
four miles. The chapel is on your
right.
