Arts Council to Sussex County Arts Council has been selected to receive an Artist in Residence grant from Mid At- lantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) to support a project involving well known Philadelphia artist, Bar- bara Bullock, and four Sussex County communities. The Arts Council was selected for this award through a highly competitive review process, in recognition of its role in bringing interactive arts experiences to Sussex County. Bullock has an exceptional rep- utation for both the quality of her work and her expertise in the in- struction of children. During her July residency, she plans to create a series of mural panels with un- derserved youths and families in Rehoboth (Burton Village), Slaughter Neck, Milton and Lewes (Belltown). Bullock's residency will begin July 3, where she will conduct the first week of workshops, orga- nized by collaborative efforts be- tween West Side New Begin- nings, DECCASA and Burton Village. During her second week, Bul- lock will be hosted by the Slaugh- ter Neck Community Center. The DECCASA and Baseball World programs in Milton will host the third week of the residency and the last week will be conducted at John Wesley United Methodist Church, Belltown. Bullock said that "through my residency, I would like to inspire creativity by sharing my knowl- edge in the development of four paneled murals depicting the coin- host summer artists munity with a positive theme. This project will inspire imagina- tion, exploration, creativity, re- flection, community stories and portraits all as part of a design ex- ploring the community." Her work speaks of African American retentions, the comparison of African American and African community schools, market places, customs, beliefs, music, dance, architecture and more. Examples of Bullock's personal work as well as the murals created at the workshops will be on dis- play in the Sussex County Arts Council's Gallery, Delaware Tech Theatre Lobby, Georgetown, July 27 through Sept. 30. An opening residency reception is planned, featuring a gallery talk and slide presentation, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Ju- ly 27. The Sussex County Arts Coun- cil received support last year as well as from MAAF, to support a very successful Artist Residency involving Georgetown's Latino Committee and the rejuvenation of Kimmey Park. This program is being made possible in part not only by MAAF, but by the Delaware Divi- sion of the Arts, the National En- dowment of the Arts, corporate support from Wilmington Trust, Townsends, and Draper King Cole, as well as private citizens. %. % Now Serving BreakfasT & Lunch SaTurday & Sunday" 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. First St. & Baltimore Ave. Rehoboth Beach, De. 302-227-9255 IR MRTTRESS 30" Metal Col w/foam mattress Reg. $179 SALE $109 39" Metal Cot w/foam mattress SERTA PRF.MIt PEDIC *89 $149 m $349 .IRU SERTA PREMIUM =1 19 0000.=169 m,$379 .$1so SERTA PERFECT SLEEPER: BROOKDALE MAXIM RRM CAPE GAZE'lYE, Friday, June 2 - June 8, 1995 - 51 Join Us For HAPPY HOUR ON THE HARBOR - - 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. DJ CAPT.
