Upon returning to the U.S., Best moved to New York as a Broadway hopeful. "I've been in the stage profes- sion since 1946. I went on tour with the Broadway show 'Marin- ka' and [in 1950] while I was part of winter stock productions in New Jersey, Universal Studios spotted me and I went to Holly- wood. Since then, I've been in 83 features and over 600 TV shows," added Best. Best's television show rsum6 includes "The Twilight Zone", "Gunsmoke", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Rawhide" and "Wagon Train". Before he landed the part in The Dukes of Hazzard, Best had also worked with such stars as Clint Eastwood, Jimmy Stewart and Burr Reynolds. Best produced two films star- ring Reynolds, "Gator" and "The End" and starred with Reynolds in "Hooper". Signing on to "The Dukes of Hazzard" interested Best because the episodes were shot in Georgia. "I wanted to get out of Holly- wood - life is not all sunglasses and autographs. It's important that these kids know that," added Best. Best even wrote some of the Dukes episodes and really en- joyed the time he spent with the "Dukes gang" as he coined them. "Tom [Wopat] I haven't seen since we left the show, but I have seen Cathy [Bach] and John [Schneider] over the years. There has been some talk about a re- union but nothing has come of it - I'm surprised that Warner Broth- series, Best has been active in the show business community. In the early 1970s he taught motion pic- ture technique and drama at the University of Mississippi, helping the blossoming careers of Lindsay Wagner, Ted Garr, Gary Busey, Judge Reinhold, Farrah Fawcett, Roger Miller and Glenn Camp- bell. He currently teaches on campus at the University of Cen- tral Florida. "Performing on stage and for the camera are very different and I was an artist-in-residence teach- ing the technology of performance and certain television terminolo- gy. I help [actors] perform to the best of their ability, but they have themselves to credit for their suc- cess," said Best. Best currently lives in Florida and within the past year he created his own movie company with his wife Dorothy and daughter Janeen Best, "Best Friend Films". He produces, acts and writes mainly low budget, made for video movies. Best recently produced a film written and directed by "Young and the Restless" star Michael Damian entitled "Finders Keepers" that has been recognized at the Cannes Film Festival. Best will begin shooting his latest pro- ject, "Death Mask", in Orlando on June 14. OFFICE & ART His words of wisdom bestowed upon Cape's 1995 graduates in- eluded, "I believe that the good Lord gives everyone the ability to do what we desire; we just have to go out there and make it happen.
